I know this article was from a few months ago, but it is still very relevant. It seems as though we scraped the bottom and the market is on the way up. With 5-6 months of inventory, we are in a transitional market and the time for buyers to act is now (specially if they can use the tax credit which will be expiring soon).

I took the road to Hana via a tour bus this August. I was stunned by the beauty of this “pristine” land and ocean view. I was very surprised at the number of celebs that have purchased property of this island, especially on the Hana side. Surprised because our tour bus driver was explicit in saying that the land of Maui can not be sold and it belongs to the original Hawaiians and will return to them. Whatever the intentions of celebs to buy this island, I would like to see it become a national preserve, no boundaries, no ownership.

My great grand father owned this property in Kula. His name was Charles Edward Thompson and his wife’s name was Anne. We have lots of history tied to this great piece of land and although it has been sold, we will always cherish the land from where our family originated. When I visit Maui, I always make it a point to stop and visit the grave site of where Charles, Anne, Edward and Frank are buried…very peaceful and lots of history on the mountain of where the Thompson family originated. I am a 4th generation of the Thompson family tree; still strong and very rooted.

There will never be another maui- It is a magical place- it has gone through cycles before and it will again. It is a great time t buy and I am not a REALTOR. I havent seen prices this low in a long time

Another headline on Maui News today (Sunday) on this global economic crisis affecting Maui. They talked about foreclosures and bankruptcies. It stated that Maui had the highest number of bankruptcies of any neighbor islands in May. Honestly, I do not think it’s going to turn around quickly.

To those who still have their jobs, and have not yet bought a house, now is the time to save for that down payment, and buy at this all time low. Like what they say, “buy low, sell high”. It seems like a lot of people bought during the high season (because the banks made it easy for them buy) and now they can’t sell. The value of many properties are way lower that what is was originally bought for.
